In the HypErSIS project, Cyberus Technology is working to redefine how security is implemented in virtualized environments. Traditional security solutions, installed within the guest operating system, are often vulnerable to sophisticated attacks that can disable or bypass them. HypErSIS takes a fundamentally different approach: embedding Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) mechanisms directly into the hypervisor layer — the virtualization core that controls the entire system.
By relocating security controls outside the guest system, HypErSIS creates a hardened, tamper-proof environment that significantly raises the bar for attackers. Even if a virtual machine is compromised, monitoring and detection capabilities remain intact at the hypervisor level.
At Cyberus Technology, we contribute with deep expertise in Virtual Machine Introspection (VMI) — the technique of observing guest systems from the outside. Our research focuses on making VMI-based detection both highly efficient and highly precise, ensuring security mechanisms can operate without degrading system performance. The insights gained from our work, including optimizations in VMI breakpoint performance, are critical to enabling real-time threat detection with minimal overhead.
HypErSIS strengthens the resilience of Windows-based virtual machines and sets new standards for securing cloud platforms, data centers, and enterprise IT infrastructures — building the technological foundation for a safer digital future.
