KVM Backend for Virtualbox

At Cyberus Technology, we are committed to strengthening the open-source ecosystem through practical innovation. One of our major contributions is the KVM Backend for VirtualBox — a project that enables Oracle’s VirtualBox to run virtual machines directly on the Linux Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM) instead of relying on its own hypervisor.

This development offers Linux users the ability to integrate VirtualBox more natively into their systems, combining the familiar ease of use of VirtualBox with the powerful performance and flexibility of KVM. By reducing overhead and improving compatibility, the KVM Backend makes virtualization setups simpler, faster, and more reliable.

Our work has been released openly to the community and has already attracted wide interest across the Linux ecosystem. We are proud to contribute to bridging the gap between different virtualization technologies, making it easier for users and developers to benefit from the best of both worlds.

Through projects like the KVM Backend, Cyberus Technology is helping to drive forward open, interoperable, and high-performance virtualization for everyone.

Cyberus in the Linux Kernel

At Cyberus Technology, we believe that real innovation happens at the core — which is why we actively contribute directly to the Linux kernel, the foundation of countless systems worldwide. One of our recent contributions includes the new hugetlb_alloc_threads setting introduced in Linux 6.1.5, improving memory allocation behavior for systems using huge pages.

Our work helps optimize resource management, reduce performance bottlenecks, and enhance system stability — critical improvements for demanding workloads such as virtualization, cloud infrastructure, and embedded systems. By working upstream and collaborating with the broader Linux community, we ensure that our enhancements are available openly and sustainably to everyone.

Through our Linux kernel contributions, Cyberus Technology proudly supports the long-term evolution of the open-source ecosystem, helping to create more efficient, robust, and scalable systems for users and developers around the world.

Nixpkgs & Lanzaboote

At Cyberus Technology, we actively contribute to the NixOS ecosystem to make secure, reproducible infrastructure a reality. One of our key contributions is Lanzaboote, a Secure Boot solution for NixOS that enables modern boot security on servers, laptops, and embedded devices — without sacrificing the declarative power of Nix.

By aligning our internal needs with upstream contributions, Cyberus helps strengthen NixOS as a secure and scalable platform — supporting its adoption in real-world environments and accelerating the growth of the open-source ecosystem.

OpenStack-Nix – Simplifying OpenStack Deployment with NixOS

Managing OpenStack traditionally requires complex and manual configuration, making it difficult to maintain and scale.

At Cyberus Technology, we developed OpenStack-Nix to radically simplify the deployment, configuration, and operation of OpenStack by leveraging the power of NixOS and declarative infrastructure.

With OpenStack-Nix, entire OpenStack environments can be defined, versioned, and reproduced using Nix expressions — making deployments consistent, predictable, and easier to manage. This approach not only reduces operational complexity but also brings significant improvements in automation, reliability, and scalability.

By open-sourcing OpenStack-Nix, Cyberus Technology empowers organizations to build robust private cloud environments with less effort and greater confidence, contributing to the broader goal of making sophisticated cloud infrastructure more accessible and maintainable for everyone.
